Chapter Two
David Van Dorschner believes in living life lavishly with family and friends. What’s the use of possession when you don’t have someone to brag it with, right?
Somehow at a Friday, your maid picks up a letter of invitation from the mailbox. It’s either you may be new or disgustingly rich, you shouldn’t be surprised to receive it, The Van Dorschners are very friendly with their neighbors. Before you decide to join, there must some things to prepare before appearing in the Van Dorschner Manor.
First, have a story to brag, you aren’t here for just listening.
Second, expect the oldest daughter with a performance.
Third, never cross any member of the house.
Marjorie Thomas sat down beside Cherie Van Dorschner and greeted a kiss with a compliment. David sat beside Quentin Curtis while talking about a past French trip. Rafael and Rachel Cruz argued with their daughter, Kelsi on the entrance.
Ezekiel’s head poked out from the window, eyeing the Cruz family. A banter of disagreeing points continued behind him, Sylvia and Chesney were talking about his favorite hobby again.
“What happens if her parents know?” Ezekiel asked, his eyes reverting to Sylvia. The topic immediately died after Ezekiel spoke. Chesney leaned on the wall and laughed.
“I love it when bitches fight!” he commented, still laughing.
Sylvia went beside Ezekiel and looked at Kelsi below. She was wearing a bold red lipstick and some bronzers, bringing much color to her face. The girl nodded obediently to her parents and gathered herself inside. Sylvia’s eyes squinted in disgust, that girl rarely obeys.
It was a great relief that Chesney’s born idiot and has been a loyal friend for years to think the dispute was entertaining. Ezekiel in the other hand was acting strange.
David called everyone out for the meal and everyone followed him to the dining hall. This was it, the bragging fest in front of the round table and the time for a possible heated night. Possibly more devastating if a Kelsi Cruz speaks.
The Van Dorschners sat between the Curtis and the Thomas family. An arrangement causing Sylvia to eat properly without facing the person sitting opposite to her. An eye from the Thomas observed her as he carefully sliced a piece of lamb steak.
Cherie Van Dorschner displayed her right hand, showing a glowing diamond ring to the other wives. “I won it from an auction!” she proudly announced. Rachel Cruz paused from stroking the vodka mixed, tomato sauced pasta. She gaze upon the ring and pouted, averting her eyes towards the faces of the other women.
Kelsi pressed her five inched heel towards Chesney’s slicking feet. It finally gave up and behaved to its original position.
“Daddy, I’ve heard Ezekiel’s signing up for the annual kick too!” Felicity blurted, her fork pointing directly to the young Thomas. Patrick Thomas grinned and slapped a proud hand on his son’s back. “It is true!” he confirmed, patting his son’s shoulder merrily.
Ezekiel’s jaw tightened, his grip on the fork loosening. His eyes immediately directed to Sylvia’s widened eyes.
“How come I didn’t hear about it, Zeke?” she asked, her voice raised with awkwardness. Kelsi and Chesney exchanged their looks from Ezekiel to Sylvia, also surprised.
“Well, he’ll do fair but my girl will do great!” he stated and laughed. Cherie awkwardly joined the laughter and clapped. Felicity chewed on the lamb meat slowly, her eyebrow raising while looking at her bothered younger sister. She eyed Chesney and flinched from disgust and decided to look at Kelsi who unusually remained quiet.
“I also heard Kelsi’s body is not stable enough for a cheer captain,” Felicity informed. Rachel Cruz dropped her jaw and faced her daughter. “Is this true?” she asked, her eyebrows creasing towards each other.
“Just how I like it! Bitch releasing out a fuse to a night with scrumptious meal and perplexed audience,” Chesney exclaimed, standing and clapping. His father, Quentin pulled him down back to his seat and scolded him for language. Chesneigh Curtis pressed her lips together, suppressing her laugh. The other twin was usually quiet yet her face was an open book.
“Well, in my opinion, competition’s healthy for both Sylvia and I. We’re more driven in that method and much efficient when someone else possess a quality to crush,” Ezekiel said after swallowing his food. He immediately held the neck of his wine glass and raised it.
“Let’s just celebrate the fact that we’re living most of it. The Van Dorschners living lavishly as ever and their daughters doing all they can to catch up standards, like me of course. Chesney living out of pleasure and Kelsi being truthful to what she wants despite her physical limitations. Cheers!” Ezekiel chuckled.
The rest nodded their heads and raised their wine glasses, clinking it to each other’s and sipping the wine out of it afterwards with thoughts running in their tipsy heads.
The guests decided to leave after finishing their meals. The Cruz family stayed a few minutes for a little chat then finally cleared the house. Sylvia immediately ran towards her room to take a soothing bubble bath. Before she could lift off her dress, the door squeaked and she immediately swallowed her saliva. The footsteps coming from the doorway were heavy and slow. The person paused right before her and pressed his point finger towards her forehead.
“You’re not smart enough for that boy and you know that,” his father, David said, pushing his finger harder on her forehead. She nodded and peered down to his brown oxford shoes.
“But what did I say about that?” he asks, pushing his finger with more pressure.
“Expand my capability if can’t then limit other’s possibility,” she responded, as if reciting a line from a book.
“Good girl,” He approved and releasing her forehead from his touch.
